- Late Spitfires (from FH60000, and Spit 1500's) used the J Type overdrive. It is a stronger unit than the earlier D Type. It is possible to get conversions to allow the J Type to be fitted to GT6 gear

- Don't worry about the low reading. The sender unit and gauges are uncalibrated items and are there only to give an indication of the temperature. It is more likely to be the sender unit in the water

- The purple/black wire is the feed to the relay from the horn switch, thus a switched earth. Your problem with the horns could be the dirt, dead flies, water etc that have entered the horns whilst you
