I'm fixing up a 1950 Chevy Truck with the original 6-cylinder motor. Of course, that's 6 volt. I am considering converting it to 12 volt. Does anybody know of a starter that will work with that at 12

I was told by the owner of the the company that I used when I overhauled my starter that if I ever converted over to 12 volt the 6 volt starter would work fine. He even told me that they often use 6

I've read on the list, for a long time, that the flywheel ring gear & starter bendix gears between 6v & 12v are different & can't be mixed. I've looked in the parts book & can't really decipher that

You are correct that they can't be mixed. 12 volt starters use a 162 fine tooth flywheel and 6 volt uses a 139 wide tooth. Grant 50 3100 oletrucks is devoted to Chevy and GM trucks built between 1941
