Also main thing is made sure it is the correct width. You'll have to move the leaf spring pads on the rear ends housing and reweld in correct position,as they are not the correct width to mate to you

My understanding is that at 180 degrees the t-stat will pop open. You can take one an put in a pot of boiling water and watch its operations, be sure to put a thermometer in there for temp references

If the temp drops down to a respectable level when driving, appears there's nothing actually wrong with your system. Since it goes up while setting still it would appear that there is not enough air
