- Back in the '60's, I had a '56 TR2 and had to take the head off about once a year to get an exhaust valve replaced (never could get the 2 SU carbs to stay tuned, so the back two cylinders ran a bit

- Greg, I would think so. I would take the bonnet off; it's much easier to work on an engine without the hinge in the way and having to worry about the side of the bonnet hitting the back of your head

- The compression breaks the seal. My head gasket experience is limited to an Alfa 1600 Giulia that I had years ago that blew head gaskets for a while until I figured out what was what. It had sleeves
