I probably drove my 1500 Midget much faster than you can drive your sprite, so this may not help you, but with some minor engine mods (boring, grinding, etc, nothing expensive), I was able to drive

My 1966 Sprite has a 948cc engine and feels like it is really working at 55mph. I suspect the later Spridgets with 1500 engines are a whole different creature. Steve Miller
