I drained out the crude motor oil and put in a mix of Dura Lube Auto/Man trans afriction reducer additive and Castrol 5W50 Syntheic Motor oil. Seemed to really smooth out the shift. Q -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~

The factory speced Motor oil, not gear oil. One theory is that because Hypoid gear oils are a different beast, and contain sulpher additives, they may not be compatible with the syncros in BMC tranny

Careful... the factory speced motor oil for the 72, but not for the later all syncro boxes (Marina parts). The 1500 midgets have these gearboxes, and the spec'ed oil is 80 weight gear oil on refills,

I'd say just make sure you have some type of oil in your tranny.SAE90,20w50,blah,blah,blah.Use oil! it really isn't outside of logic to say it doesn't matter,and it all depends on wether you have hyp
