Yes, that has worked for me as well, on occasion. Good if the stub is too short for vise-grips. Definitely easier than using an "easy-out", if you can manage it. Garner, Joseph P. had this to say: --

I have read and have used wax as a lubricant after heating the stud/bolt. It does help. As soon as you remove the heat, touch a piece of wax/candle to the place threads. The wax will penetrate with
