Is it imperative that the vent pipe be connected up to the fuel pump? My pipe is old and hard and when I was putting on my new pump some of it broke off. Now it is to short to reach the vent. I am h

You should stop by a parts supply place ASAP and replace the tubing. If you leave it open you will get fumes in the passenger compartment and if you close it off you will get fuel starvation and poss
