Running straight avgas will not burn pistons, valves or anything else. The only differences are higher octane, cleaner burning and more $$. It is possibly a little harder to start in cold conditions

The threaded end of the spridget steering rack is 1.75" long -- just measured one of my spare rack now. You didn't say which car (B, midget or Spit) you were doing. I can't help you on the others. M

There is a current MG racing series here. It has been running for years and In it there are 3 classes of car full race, historic, and fast road. There are a couple of TC/TD's, A's, 4 cylinder and V8

Max and others, It doesn't take much to make an A series motor go *much* faster. As delivered by BMC, you could easily believe the performance was deliberately held back so as not to embarrass the B.

Shell's Optimax is indeed *very good stuff*. It is as good as Super (leaded) used to be in the good old days. We reckon that you'd be able to run b/n 11 and 11.5:1 on this stuff instead of about 9.8:
