This is a change from my earlier message; I've found the casting in the side of the block of my '59 MGA where the tach would connect. All that's there is the casting shape with 2 holes for the bolts.

Hmm.... Sounds like your insight is probably correct. One thing though, are you sure your Number is BP15HCG? Mine is BP15HGC. Might you have transposed the "C" & the "G"? Then your serial number is 4
