Thanks to all who replied to my post. Appears that a Group 24 or 26 will fit the rack OK, and I'll measure things before final instalation to be sure it will negotiate the openning to the rack. Right

Rick & Chad-- Thanks for your replies. I looked again--turned the crank 180--and there were the holes. But, there are tight spots in the rotation. I assume they shouldn't be there--also, no lock tabs

Interesting question about the material culture in 1955-62 (I assume you have an mga). I don't recall bungee cord back then. There was nowhere near the variety of 'things' available that you can find
