The "clip" that is attached to the column is for a 1976 or earlier column. It is on a '75 column but I am not sure about '74 and earlier. The 77-80 columns do not have the clip. /// /// mgb-v8@autox.

For a 12 volt alternator, 14.7 volts would be a normal reading. Anything less than 15.5 volts seems to be O.K. Less than 14 volts should be cause for concern. The hot wire can be any switched source.

I use a TR6 gauge in one car, Autometer in the other. Do not use the voltage Try a second gauge. or remove & have it checked at the parts house. NAPA & others have testers that spin the alternator. /

If you are using the stock MGB SU pump, it is unlikely you will develop more than 4 lbs of pressure, which is what the SU and later Zeinith crabs required- maybe a touch over with a new pump. Carter
