On the subject of TR6 rods I would be very careful of any rod which uses 1/4" bolts. The only TR6 race engines I know of that had a rod failure were the aforementioned 1/4" bolt variety. As Kas said,

The exception to this is the Carrillo rod. The 1/4 sps carr bolt they use will out hold almost anything you can put in a rod.... I have absolute faith in them. They do have to be installed correctly

I have no idea which rod is the best... Historically, Carrillos have an excellent reputation. I do know that John at Advanced Engine Management builds some very serious National type Honda VTEC motor

Well this morning I had to follow up on Nicks post. So I called Eagle (stock car and drag rods). It looked like they had just the thing. 6.250" center to center fully prepped racing rods at about $50

I wondered why you were so concerned about the rods fitting through the cylinders. I'm too used to working on motorcycles I guess- I always put the pistons in through the bottom.

In the Spit motor (1147 anyway) You have to put them in through the top. Will not fit in through the bottom. Main bearings get in the way... iii
