- Cracked inlet manifold, blown manifold gasket for that carb, junk in hte needle and seat, sunk float, pinched fuel line, needle not secure imn the piston, cracked inlet valve or stiuck valave or lift

- Could it be a partially blocked fuel filter or fuel line, or bad pump? The coil could act this way too, overheating then cooling. Check the easy/cheap stuff first and work your way up! Simon, TR4A (c

- More esoteric stuff: Grab the top of the distributor rotor and give it a shake. If you can feel perceptible sideways movement your distributor bushing might have worn enough to have unpredictable run
