You don't want to leave the valve open on the accusump. As start you drain 3 quarts from the engine when you need it most. If you don't want to leave it charged in the sun you can drain it but be sur

Not true. For example, my Spitfire race car engine. 4-quart sump, 3-quart Accusump. If the Accusump is empty because the valve is open, I now have seven quarts of oil in a system designed for four (W

Absolutely right Rocky, though the issue of the sun heat is not eliminated. If the accusump was full and the valve was closed when the oil was cool, the pressure would rise from the sun's heat. But t

About the only way I can fill the Accusump with cool oil is when I have emptied it for some reason (like taking it out of the car) and had to pre-load it upon reinstallation. Then the first time I st

I didn't explain the situation well. You need to open the valve before starting the engine but should remember to close it before you turn the engine off. When you first start up the engine with an e

I suggest that when doing recharge on accusump you spin the engine over a few times with ignition off to get a bit of oil pumping, start engine with accusump valve closed, & when engine oil pressure

My understanding is that one of the chief advantages of the Accusump (which, I hasten to add, I do NOT have on my TR6 - yet) is that it retains a supply of oil under pressure when the engine is not r

Yep, I understand this part of the Accusump or "accumulator" setup. Pre-oiling is a def. win. I understand... I'm trying to find out if folks ever see "oil cavatation" or tht kind of thing. On some o

Hi all! Jim has it right on the Accusump. I have one on Tris. It is a metal canister with an air bladder in the rear. You open it while the car is running, to build pressure, and close it when it has

The Group 44 car had an ACCUSUMP when I bought it and we use it primarily for pre-oiling. I had one in my old B-210 (the ex-Bob Sharp car) also. I feel that they are necessary on a standard sump race

Never had the problem with a Triumph, but my old Maserati has it in spades--despite holding about ten gallons of oil in it's pan. I think an accusump beats the alternatives, and they're cheap.
