In tinkering with engine bay portion of my 70 1600 wiring harness, I notice three grounding connections: one to the engine block to two to the frame (right and left side), but none connecting to the

YES... there should be a good ground (heavy) wire from the engine to the frame. You should find it on the the starter mounting bolt to the frame. If it is missing, suddenly the starter current tries
