- I wish I could include a sound file to this question, but what could produce a loud scraping noise in the engine? I removed the fan belt and the noise is still there. So that would remove the water

- You were correct. Went out last night and checked the harmonic balancer. Currently there is a nice notch in the bottom of the timing mark. The aluminum timing chain cover is a fine sound box so the
