- I checked the transmission end originally, the "keyway" is intact, I had to line it up with the slot to insert the cable all the way into the tranny. It sounds as if the issue is the "plastic gear".

- OK confession time...... I checked the cable and it is fine, I turn it at the tranny end and it turns at the Speedo end but when connected to the tranny and the car is driven the cable does not turn
