As far As I know the brick does not use a resister wire or IVR on the gauges. The problem sounds as if it may be a bad ground. I'm not sure where the gauges ground at but they go into the main harnes

from what I have read and have determined, first the plenum strip helps cooling at speed. if removed air may flow a bit better at stand still but much worse at speed as there is a high pressure area
