In July's Fastrack there were some class changes that brought a question. It lists the Ford Contour as being in ESP. Is this for a street prepared Contour SVT or for a stock Contour SVT? I ask becaus

Well, of course it would be a SP Contour. More the question would be: Is it classed in Stock? But if SP is the *only* place they class a car (check Viper), then you caqn' still prepare it to the lim

SVT Contours are classed in GS and certainly no threat there. Why oh why does this car need to be in ESP in street prepared trim? It's front wheel drive, non turbo. This has got to be a misprint. Joh

John, the fact that it is a V6 is the reason...All V6 stock cars go to ESP in SP trim...been that way for a long time. Ask the drivers of several GM fwd V6's... Phil O. SVT Contours are classed in GS

I guess it never hit me before .... we don't really have a V6 SP class! I would think that we need this much worse than we need ST classes, don't you?????? John Whitling

If anyone would care to look at the latest version of the proposed Street Prepared class restructuring in I think it was last month's Fastrack (or maybe two months ago), you'll see that the new SP cl

Where else would you put it? With the little rice rockets in CSP? The little Euro-rockets in DSP? ESP appears to be the closest thing to a match available for a large V6 powered car in SP trim. ESP i

I wouldn't classify a 3-series BMW in the same league as a domestic front wheel drive V6 sedan. I think the Bimmer is another case of "where else would you class it?" It might not be competitive in C

I think it's closer in concept to ESP, but would be a *big* underdog to a good Camaro V8. While we're on the subject, what's the 325i doing in BS against the nibble Miatas? Wouldn't GS be more appro

From what I've seen, it's not over or under classed in CSP. At least the M3. The smaller 3-series cars I think may be cars without a class right now, but the M3 is OK in CSP. I think it better fits t

Yeah, the M3 is a little more competitive in CSP, but I think lots of 325s will continue to be driven on the local level. I like your comment that they "are cars without a class". Woody

I think you figures make a good case for the M3 to be in ESP. But even though I drive an '88 M3 (a totally different animal from the '95+ M3), my original posting was concerning the 2.5 liter 325s.
