Hello All, It's recommended to use straight non-detergent 30 weight oil in the transmission and overdrive, right? But my question is, does anyone use 80-90 in their gearboxes with overdrives, anyway?

One thing that doesnt seem to have been mentioned is that transmision oil (90wt), and engine oil (30wt) have different test specifications, and that 90wt transmition oil has an effective viscosity (

The engine oil and transmission (gear) oil is about the same viscosity, but they changed the numbers for some reason. What you don't want ever use is hypoid gear oil. jan -- ______ ______ _______ / _

The Brits don't always call out 30 wt. My Triumph TR6 has an A type overdrive and the recommended oil is 80 or 90 wt EP gear oil depending on the temperature. This is the same overdrive that is used
