All this talk about top speed has me confused. I drove over to Battle of the Brits last Sunday, first time I've had it on the highway. My top speed was 69 mph at 5,000 rpm. I know the speedo isn't of

You might want to compare your dash tach reading to an electronic tach. Jay On Tue, 10 Sep 2002 13:38:10 -0400 "Bryan Lepley" <blepley@msn.com> writes:

Sounds like your tach is WAY off. In 4th gear at 70, you should be pulling about 3500 rpm. I have similar problems, but not to your extreme. My tach is accurate at idle, but gets more and more inaccu

5900 RPM's in 4th gear with stock tire diameter (26.5 inches, more or less) and a stock TR6 3.70 differential should equate to over 110 MPH. 100 MPH is something just over 5000 in 4th. If your tach

I have a pretty reliable spreadsheet that shows speed vs. RPM, the variables being tire size, rear end ratio and the gear you're in (It also calculates the results for the two available OD ratios, bu

Of course the other possibility is that you get a GPS and look at the accuracy of the speedo. Steve tr6@kc4sw.com [demime 0.97c removed an attachment of type application/x-pkcs7-signature which had a

All--It shouldn't really matter what the differential ratio or the tire size would be in Bryan's reading. If he's seeing 5000 rpm at 69mph, this is a relation between the tach and the speedo. He shou

Certainly would seem that way. Older American cars had speedo drive gear options available for various rear end ratios. Far as I know these weren't available from US distributors for TR's, not sure o

I don't think the calibration was done via the transmission speedo gear but with the speedo unit itself! Triumph had various speedometers avaliable all with various combinations of KPH/MPH/3.45/3.70.

Quite true (although my first reaction to your note was, "HUH?"). But if he's seeing 5000rpm at an indicated 69mph (with a stock Triumph gearbox), he'd only be seeing around 50mph at 5000rpm in third

Could there be a problem with the cam not being degreed properly? This would surely cause high revolutions, less power and no speed. Robert L. Gannon trsix74@comcast.net TR6 1974 CF22956U TR3A 1960 T
