This sounds like the same cry for help I made a few months ago. The suggestion that worked for me was to stick a broom handle into one of the center inlet ports and pull up. Popped it right off. - H

Try flipping the locating plate over. I just replaced mine, but the old one had a groove worn into the front side. It had no clearance when I put the grooved surface on the back. - Hugh Fader
