Although he never quite made into the "late" 50's because he was killed in his
Porsche 550 Spyder in 1955, James Dean defined "cool" for many of us who were
either teens or preteens (what we now call "tweeners" ) back then. All the guys
wanted to be him and all the girls wanted to save him from himself.
Now that you have pushed my nostalgia button, do you remember a PI show in the
early 60's called Richard Diamond, Private Detective ? David Janson was the
star but Mary Tyler Moore played the girl at his answering service. All you
ever saw we're her legs while he was talking to her on the phone and flirting
with her. Her face never once appears on the show.
