In my experience, best to remove the upright for pressing out the stub sha=
ft. Remove the nyloc nut from the inner end of the spindle while the uprigh=
t is still in the car. After stripping the upright, run a 1/2-20 hex nut (n=
ot nyloc) onto the inner end of the spindle and run it down flush with the =
end of the spindle. this will support the threads during pressing and keep =
the spindle from flying out when it breaks loose. in the press, apply press=
ure to the inner end of the spindle and hex nut. If you have a lot of press=
ure on the ram and the spindle isn't moving, tap the upright sharply with a=
hammer and drift in a horizontal direction before cranking up the pressure=
