I thought this might be of interest to some of you...Bill is very
special to us in the Carolinas and I'm sure to others within VTR. Since
I sent this message out to our club Friday night, Cheri and Mary (Bill's
wife) have spoken. No real updates except that he's in ICU at Baptist
Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, no visitors except family, and they
believe his life is not in immediate danger. He's on a respirator to
prevent pneumonia. If you folks feel it's appropriate, I'll update the
list as to Bill's condition when things change.

Subject: News -- Important!
Hi, folks...
I've got some pretty serious news to report tonight. I just got off the
phone with Kevin -- who had just gotten off the phone with Mary Wood.
Bill had an accident at work...apparently fell sideways off a "cherry
picker" lift at close to full extension. Mary was calling on the way to
Baptist Hospital in W-Salem. Apparently, Bill has a broken pelvis,
ribs, arm, elbow, and a cracked vertebrae, however Mary assured Kevin
that the nerves were ok and paralysis was NOT an issue. I don't know
anything else; I've asked Kevin to update us with more info as he gets
it, and Cheri and I plan to head for Winston/G-boro on Sunday, depending
on talking with Mary and seeing if visitors are ok/whether or not we'd
just be in the way. Please remember them both in your hearts and
prayers...I'm just thankful it's not worse--Kevin said the fall was 34
feet...
Bill, as usual, was more concerned about others than himself; he wanted
Mary to change their phone message over to send Gathering calls to Kevin
or myself; that's fine with us. I'm not sure all of you have our new
phone number/address, so I'm sending it out below. We'll definitely
need some good communication in the upcoming weeks as things shake
out...we're going to have a lot of responsibilities to divy out. I
doubt that many of us realize how much Bill had taken on himself for the
Gathering, and it's important to me (and I'm sure, to you) that we
prevent Bill from having to worry about anything other than getting
well.
Either Kevin or I will let you know more as we find out.
