Pete Thompson (the only GCT rep. at the Nationals) and his brother arrived in
Hudson this afternoon at the VTR National Convention. His wife, Dianna,
called with the news. It was a two day drive that consumed, 9 quarts of
Castrol 20-50, and untold amounts of anti-freeze.
The first day saw scorching temperatures as well as a cool spell. When they
left Tulsa it was Sunday morning at about 6:00 am. Now, let give you a little
back ground here. Pete is driving a hastily prepared 1960 TR3A. It is white
with wine interior and wine colored wire wheels. The car has been overheating
since a valve job over the winter. The '3 had also been plagued with an
ignition problem. The ingnition problem ended up being the "new" coil that
had been replaced a few years earlier. We thought we had the overheating
problem "liveable" by the usage of Water Wetter and by smoothing the engine
out. Oh, yeah, the temperature around here has been almost 100 and climbing.
It was 101 here today.
After slowing down to around 55 mph the '3 seemed livable. That was before
they ran into a rain shower (did I mention that Pete doesn't have any side
curtains either?) that cooled the car off as well as the passengers!
Well, to make a long story short, they made it there and if any one on the vrt
list sees them please tell them that "Team Green" is with them in spirit and
we wish them a safe trip home. One more thing, if you have any advise, or can
lend Pete a hand, I would appreciate it.
