I have Elva Courier with a Ford 711M block with oil pressure problems.
Last season I lost rod bearing and assumed the reason was I started it
with out first cranking for oil pressure. This year the oil pressure
dropped to about 20 lbs after break in and about 1/2 hour track time.
Yesterday I started it after a tear down and not finding anything. At
start the pressure came right up to 60 and I idled for about 5 minutes
when the pressure dropped to about 5-10lb. Today after tear down I found
a small hole in the oil galley into the crank area just above the oil
pump. Nothing came loose and hit that area. Could this just be a casting
void that finally blew out? This block saw many rebuilds for use in a
Formula Ford. Has anyone ever run into this? Can the block be welded on
the inside?
I would really appreciate any advice from the group.
