The hot oil is kind of a guy thing. If the oil is cool
it is entirely to easy to get the oil plug out without
scalding yourself. Only a deft diehard can get the oil
plug out quickly enough to keep the hot oil from
running down your arm and burning all the hair from
your arm, arm pit and chest. Hell if its cold anyone
can do it.
I believe the original idea came when there was a
great deal more ash in the oil When the oil is cold
the ash and other gunk would collect to the bottom of
the pan. If you heat of the mess the ash would go back
into solution. With the new oils it may not be
necessary.
