"Is this a replica car? Is this a recreation? Who knows."

"Richard Newton asked."

There is at least one person serving a long jail sentence in England
because of restoring his SWB Ferrari and making a clone at the same time.

Nothing wrong with this, BUT, he sold the clone as the original and kept
the real original. Since the price was in the Millions the buyer, who
is a good friend and wishes not to be known, checked things out and as a
result not only got his money back, but also caused the miscreant to be
sent to jail a half world away.

I guess the caveat here is to know your seller, know the details of the
vehicle you want to buy, get it all in writing and hope for the best.

Lots of fraud going on in the collector car market right now, so know
what you are doing.

When you buy over the block at a collector auction you be sure of what
you are doing. What the auctioneer says may not necessarily hold up in
court.
