Hello,

I have a 61 Lotus Seven America with the Bugeye 948cc
engine and smoothcase transmission. I have removed the
driveshaft for various reasons, one of which was to
determine the source of a noise (good reason eh?)

I am unfamiliar with the 'shroud' in front of the
front UJ - please see:
http://www.simplesevens.com/driveshaft.jpg

The orange cylindrical 'shroud' is connected to but
rotates freely in relation to the yoke. There is just
a bit of looseness in the connection between the two
-- the shroud wobbles. I wonder if that's the source
of a rattle I'm hearing from that area at low speeds
and coasting to a stop.

What exactly is the purpose of this shroud, and should
it be solidly connected to the yoke? Thanks in
advance.

By the way the UJ's are in fine condition with no
wobbles themselves!

Cheers,
John D.
