Well said, Bill. And since you mentioned Jack, I thought I would put him on a
pedestal for a moment. I personally saw him bend over somewhat backwards to
allow a fellow to race at the Zippo a couple of years ago when the car was
obviously not compliant. The problems were mostly cosmetic and Jack made some
rather innovative use of duct tape to minimize the problems with the look of
the car.

He did give the driver some well-deserved tongue lashing on not paying
attention to the rules, and told him that the car would have to comply at the
next race.

Point is, the attitude was positive, creative, and sensitive to the fact that
he could have potentially really spoiled someone's weekend by sending him home.

The driver in question had a great weekend, drove safely, and the fact that he
was on the track caused no one any harm.

I've also found Jack very helpful and positive in giving me advice in improving
the safety of my car as well as classifying it properly. As a matter of fact,
I ended up spending $700 in safety improvements he recommended (but did not
necessarily require). His positive attitude helped me decide to do those
things, whereas if he had been high-handed about it I might have been defensive
and not done them.

BTW, I rarely run in SVRA so I'm not sucking up. I just think it important to
point out that there are people involved in important aspects of the hobby that
really understand what it is all about. I would say all the same positive
things about the officials in CVAR, my local organization (but then I really
WOULD be sucking up!). I don't know the front and back of Hugh's issue and
I've never raced with HSR, but I find that the person he is describing is very
much the exception rather than the rule.

the heavens won't come tumbling down ('fiat
justicia ruat coelum' for any legal buddies out there) if one 'illegal' car
is allowed to run a race.
