Hello and thanks to those who responded to my post including the guy who
hollered at me for posting to two lists at once :-0
Hey I dint know Im th new guy remember? :-)
well, then if I had to guess, Id say that these two lists must be brand
new. I have been a member of the Land Speed Racing E-mail List going on
three years now and if I dont receive at least 15 to 20 posts per day from
it I wonder if m puter is unplugged. I signed up for these Vintage and
Flathead lists about a week ago, and never received a message of any kind.
Thats why I asked today. I didnt think anybody was out there I dont
know about you guys, but when a neebie gets on the LSR List hes asked to
introduce himself a paragraph or two; so that the other folks will know a
little about him... Nice and friendly like. So Ill do so for those of
you here.
First though, Im wondering, a couple questions:
1. How many of ya are there, your age group, and experience,
2. How long has this list been up and running,
and
3. what topics have been hashed out already ?
Now, about me Im 56 goin on 16 and have been car crazy since before
birth (I heard m papa talkin new cars with Mom) and have experience
going back to the early 60s in the following;
* Street Racing
* NHRA Drag Racing BB (before brackets) back when it was RACING
In the following sub-categories; Stock, Modified Production, Gassers, &
AA/Altered. Ive crewed on AA/Fuel Altereds and Funny Cars as well.
* Land Speed Racing; Have been on two teams in the late 80s. Roadster & a
Coupe. Both set records. Both had inline 6s (I know, I know -the hated
ENEMY) LOL (I also know a lotta flathead and ARDUN guys some cut me some
slack) :-)
* Murdersickles; -Minibikes since I was about 15 (the first time around)
and Har-Davs for twenny five years later and dam proud of it. I drag
racedem back in the late 80s and managed to get a runner up at Harley
Nite at the local SPEEDWAY Motorsickle races last June. Talk about fast
action. Its like Sprint Car Racing on two wheels. I am currently
restoring a thirty year old minibike with 5hp Briggs & Stratton power.
Plan to see pit duties and 100 mph with it. Last one I had back in 1969
went 69 with just 1 speed and a centrifugal clutch. Im planning a two
speed for this one. No reason in the world it shouldnt do a hunnert I
figure. :-)
I built a Hot Rod coupe from the ground up, and have managed to put 26,000
miles on it since hitting the highway in May of 1996. I drove the car to
Bonneville Speedweek 50 and back from my residence in southern central NY
State in 1998. Its powered by an old small journal crank 327 Chevy poked
out to 332 c.i. links to it are below if youd like to see it. Obviously
its the red & white one. Last August I did laps with it during the
Convention of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing in Pennsylvania, of which
Im a proud and active member...passed 3 Stock Cars, I did :-)

Ive been planning on building an AUTHENTIC circa 1950 Track Racing Roadster
with flathead power for a couple years now, and have been gathering parts
and knowledge. Both of which you can never get enough of. Theres a
complete (it ran 6 years ago...) 50 Merc flathead taking up space in my
garage along with various and sundry other old rusty, crusty go fast parts
from by-gone eras...
-so thats who I am. Who are you ? What do you say the rest of ya start
(or continue ?) introducing yourselves so Ill get to know you as well :-)
lookin forward to hearing from you all, Im Dirt Track Doug in New Yawk
