Tony:
I've been assembling information on aftermarket fans for some
time. There is a big difference between various manufacturer's products as
far as current draw and efficiency. You can find a compilation of my
results to date at:
http://www.jcna.com/library/tech/tech0008.html
There's an Excel version of this table available for downloading
on the same page. The Excel version will allow you to sort by size, current
draw, efficiency, weight, etc. You will also find links to each
manufacturer's web page. Corrections are appreciated.
As far as HP utilization, ohm's law is W=VI, so just multiply the
amperage by the 13.5 (assumes that all manufacturers report current draw @
13.5V). Multiply the watts by 0.001341 to give horsepower. Remembering that
alternators are not perfectly efficient at converting mechanical power to
electricity, doubling the result will put you in the ballpark. You should
find that the number is very small.
Are those numbers hard enough?
