Jack is correct in that the 1972 GCR/PCS (post 1965, for that matter) stated
that "extensive engine and suspension modifications were permitted as long
as certain original parts were used, such as (block) cranks, rods, rocker
arms, carbs (intake manifold), etc" but operative reading noted that in ALL
cases the parts that were required to be retained had to be identifiable as
coming from the series produced make and model automobile, even down to
being able to read the part or casting number. It's remarkable how clear a
road map we have for the preparation of historically accurate cars if we
just look it up!
