While cleaning out old emails, I was checking all the web links and ran
across Jim Hayes' site about crunching his car and how to build a safe cage
http://world.std.com/~jeh/racing/sprnt59a.htm which is neat. He mentioned
putting in reinforcing in the floor so the cage legs don't break through.

One trick Mini racers in England used to do was to put another bar, from leg
to leg, just slightly about the floor. This formed a box to the cage, so
that the bar would contact the floor and not punch through. They also
supported the seat from this box rather than the floor.

It is similar to how modern GT -1 cars are built today.

Food for thought.
