While at the Wine Country Classic, I also heard official word that the
racing surface would NOT be changed. The revised plan approved by the
county nixed high grandstands in favor of terraced hillsides. The
Esses will stay the way they are, with perhaps some better runoff areas.
Turn 11 (the hairpin where Gurney had problems with the Ferrari) will
not be changed on the track, but they are apparently going to move the
track exit in order to allow for some runoff area on the outside of the
turn. They are putting in drive-thru garages for NASCAR (yawn) and
relocating the permanent shops to accomodate the revised track exit.
The only problem I see with relocating the track exit is that it may 
take significantly longer to get from the track exit into the hot pits.
