Gary, the resurrection of the Mini-Sprite Challenge comes from the fertile
minds of myself and Burt Levy. Coincidentally, Burt and I were thinking of
the same thing - that is getting it back up and running. We were also
thinking of how each one of us could promote a little bit more interest in
our own venues. He at Gingerman with VSCDA and myself with VARAC at
Mosport.
So, it must have been telepathy! He called me and we put our heads
together. The result was a plan to create a little cross border
competition via putting together a "Can-Am Challenge Series". Now, the
Can-Am does not mean those big ground pounders we used to love years ago.
It just means good ole Canadian/American rivalry.
The Series will start at Mosport on the June 30, July 1&2 weekend hosted by
VARAC and follow up the next weekend at Gingerman hosted by VSCDA. It is
possible that we may extend the Series to other venues. The "mission
statement" is so far pretty loose other than to encourage Vintage Racers to
have a lot of fun testing their skills on two vastly different tracks.
Features include the resurrected Mini-Sprite Challenge, a "Monoposto Border
War, Enduros, Special Feartures, etc. The emphasis is on fun. Enough
classes will be created so as to allow similar cars to race against each
other. So, your 1275 Sprite will be very welcome. Can Burt mooch a ride in
it?
I have posted this to the Vintage Race List and to the VARAC list because I
think that it will answer some questions that others have about the VARAC
and Gingerman events.
If anyone else has questions, fire away!

I hope that you can make it to Mosport this summer!
Tell me about it.. Me too!
You have any more details on this Sprite Mini challenge thing? I saw a
brief write up on it in the latest Victory Lane. Dont have to respond
right
now, maybe a promo on the VR list at some point?
Also, one quick question. My good 948 race motor is in the process of a
pretty major overhaul. I broke the center main bearing cap at road america
last year, so it will necessitate a bit more work than the typical
"freshening". I dont yet know the condition of the crank, etc... I hope to
have this motor back together by the time Mosport rolls around. My back up
motor is a 1275, which is in the car right now.(1959 Bugeye). If things do
not go as hoped as far as the motor goes, will I be allowed in the Country
with that motor?
Thanks for all your work on this stuff.. We ALL really do appreciate it.
