Severin Thompson's suggestions on sealed bearings are great. They should work
well in other applications as well. They're in the rear axle of my Lotus Super
7. The SKF brand seems to be superior. After 4 years of running a set of SKF
bearings I recently replaced them with an equivalent FAG bearing. The
replacements did not hold up and leaked the grease out. I'll be going back to
the SKF's over the winter. For my application and possibly other standard
Triumph axles, the SKF number is RLS8-2RS1 (double-sealed, rubber sided, 1" ID).
