This point has been discussed ad nauseum at many CSRG board meetings.
For certain old, pre-war cars, adding a roll bar would certainly radically
alter their appearance and value as they never had one when they raced. The
theory is, that THEY ALSO DON'T HAVE SEATBELTS... so if it rolls, you're
thrown clear, which has often occured. But, sometimes, the car rolls over on
you, and that can be a problem.
As there are very few of these cars competing now, and if the owner/driver is
willing to acknowledge this risk, then the philosophy has been to leave them
alone.
