I'm almost sure he's referring to American Racing Mags which were an
extremely popular racing wheel in the 60's.  They had the same 8 spoke
configuration as is generally found on Minilites.  American Racing
wheels are still made, but they've gone totally commercial - no race
whls., just fancy aftermarket street stuff.
