Anything really close to Monterey/Carmel is going to cost you several
precious body parts.  I got this from somebody else who did find some
accomodations not too far away.  Salinas for $100 a nite is not too bad.
I got rooms in Carmel close to the Concours Italiano and the track, but
the tariff is $179/nite. In Italian that's pronounced "rippa-you-off."
