Don, I don't know about the shelf life of Nomex, but the latest Racer Wholesale catalog says : Most manufacturers suggest that you replace your helmet every five years, not to just sell you a new helmet, but because all helmets are constructed of plastic based products, which over time become brittle and lose their ability to absorb impact.
