I believe the HP1 is constructed to withstand higher pressures. My car
has a double volume oil pump that results in about 60+ psi cold. I've
been running HP1's for 4 years with no problems. I did run a Purolator
once after an emergency oil change, but it was a big one. All it means
when they say "optional filter for that application" is that it has the
same thread and base circle. That covers a lot of filters. The direct
replacement for the HP1 in the regular line is the PH8A. This is the
same as the Motorcraft FL1-A, etc. etc. Maybe size is a factor?
Do you have an oil pressure gauge on your car? If not you might want to
plumb one in to see if your pump is limiting at a reasonable pressure.
