Off the subject somewhat, but for anyone going to Road Atlanta who has
the time and isn't a tweedy, pipe smoking minceur, may I suggest a short
pilgrimage to Dawsonville, GA (just up the road), and in particular the
fabu Dawsonville Pool Room -- high school hangout of one Bill Elliot.
The place is great, and the number of old NASCAR fenders, wheels, track
officials, photographs (and photographers!), etc. hanging from walls and
ceiling are multitudinous and iconic. For those who eat the flesh of
God's creatures, they make a g-g-g-giant burger that'll stay with you
all the way back to the Hamptons.

If you visit Dawsonville and you simply *must* drive the Volvo Estate
Wagon (and knowing this crowd, that's a fair given), at least have the
decency to put a gun rack in your back window. Better yet a softened
archery-target homasote deer strapped across the hood of the old 850,
with some ketchup snagged from the McDs to slather around the ersatz
trophy's mouth. A Gucci camouflaged handbag wouldn't hurt, either, and
PLEASE lose the IZOD shirts. Something ruggedly tasteful and manly
(especially for women) from Eddie Bean's Goose-Liver Down Emporium will
suffice, if you can manage to hide the labels for once...
