Wow, thanks for the responses! I guess I did leave out a key piece of
info - I now live in Leavenworth, KS, (North of KC) and I believe the
nearest track is Heartland Park in Topeka.
As a response to Simon, I certainly do realize that money, time and
family support all factor into the equation, and I appreciate your frank
comments! You may find it odd, but my affinity for American muscle
tends to stay on the street. 6.5 liters under full throttle makes a
sweet sound in a straight line, but there is a lot to be said for
cornering and managing the powerband. I find the smaller displacement
racers at least equally appealing and (apparantly) challanging to drive,
and from what I've seen so far, somewhat more affordable.
I must also agree with the comment that vintage racers are, as a group,
a very friendly and helpful lot. My limited experience so far has been
nothing but positive.
Thanks again for the responses. I recently saw some info on a Devin
racer in the late '50s. Anyone have some info on the Devin? From what
I've read, it looks like it carried several makes of engines.
