Jumping on the bandwagon here.
The race seat in my MGA is of unknown vintage, but is clearly not
original MG, nor even close.
It is however wonderfully comfortable, but slowly falling apart (aren't
we all?)
Over here on the West coast, all clubs I am familiar with couldn't care
less what seat you use, with the exception of HMSA (the organizer of
Monterey Historics). HMSA maintains very high standards for vintage
race authenticity. When replacing my current seat, it would be nice I
feel, to put something more original in it's place, however I am hoping
to keep the excellent lateral support which my current seat gives me.
Has anyone any experience of using the MG competition seat advertised in
Moss catalog? (at around $600-$800 as I recall)
Perhaps someone has been successful in some way modifying the standard
MGA seat to give good lateral support?
Perhaps there's some other type seat, perhaps with some vintage flavor
which would offer better lateral support than the standard MGA seat.
I note that SCCA has a requirement now for much better seat support than
previously, so perhaps I would be better off chasing a safer seat rig
than a more authentic one.
