The Blackhawk Vintage Classic, to be held at Blackhawk Farms Raceway,
Rockton, Illinois June 13, 14 and 15, will be the site of a Vintage Vee
Summer Scramble, in addition to Victory Lane's USRRC Race and The Small Bore
Gran Prix. The Summer Scramble is an informal gathering of Formula Vee
drivers whose competition within the formula car group is marked by close
racing and lots of vintage camaraderie. Although a Beginners Drivers School
will be held June 13, most of the track time on that day will be devoted to
practice on Blackhawk Farms twisting 1.9 mile road circuit. The school will
be limited to 20 students who will receive individualized on-track
instruction as well as classroom training.
The Victory Lane US Road Racing Championship Seniors Tour Race is open to
pre-1966 Sports Racers and GT Cars in over and under two liter engine
capacities. Racing is invariably fast and intense in USRRC as these classes
represent some of the fastest road racing machines of that era. The Small
Bore Gran Prix is an enlargement of the popular Sprite-Mini Challenge with
most of the entry expected to be comprised of Sprites, Minis, and Midgets
with a sprinkling of Alfas, Spitfires, Lotuses, etc.
The Blackhawk Vintage Classic is sponsored by Blackhawk Farms Raceway and
the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association. As with other VSCDA events,
maximum track time is emphasized with practice, qualifying, an enduro,
handicap runs, and group races available to all entrants, in addition to the
special races mentioned above. The event provides charitable contributions
to the Tebala Shrine Transportation Fund, which offers free transportation
of children to Shriners Hospitals.
