Off The top of my head the colors I can remember are
France - blue
Britain - green
Italy - red
USA - white and blue (body white frame blue)
Germany - White or silver

Yes... Originally Britain was assigned red... In the early early
days most manufacturers went their own way... BRG also has changed
over the years ranging from frosty metallic Green (50s-60s Astons)
to an almost black green of some Jaguars of the same vintage

Both.... Silver became the color during the 30's... in heraldry
(which the Nazis set a lot of stock in), silver and white are the
same color.
