NOVEMBER 14, 1896 - NOVEMBER 14, 1996
Today is the 100th anniversary of the abolition of the RED FLAG RULE.
So what.
What does this have to do with this forum or anyone for that matter?
answer- EVERYTHING.
Prior to this date 100 years ago an automobile/car or Road Locomotive
was not allowed to travel faster than a man could walk while waving a
red flag. This was a warning to others of the approaching vehicle
(in England). The speed about four miles/hour.
With the abolition of this rule cars could now travel not only under
their own power but as fast as safety would allow.
The London to Brighton Centenary Rally commemorated this milestone.
More on the Rally later.
